Nagpur Police have arrested a 35-year-old man, Jagdish Uikey, for issuing over 30 fake bomb threats to airlines and ministers ¹ ². Uikey, an author of a book on terrorism, was previously arrested in 2021 in a related case. The latest threats triggered panic, caused flight delays, and led to increased security at airports and other establishments.
Uikey sent emails to various government bodies, including the Prime Minister’s Office, Railway Minister, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and his deputy ¹ ². He also targeted airline offices, the Director General of Police, and the Railway Protection Force. The emails claimed to have information on a secret terror code and requested a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The investigation, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Shweta Khedkar, uncovered detailed information linking Uikey to the emails ¹. A special team was formed to arrest Uikey, who was on the run after the emails were traced back to him.
In the 13 days leading up to October 26, more than 300 flights operated by Indian carriers received hoax bomb threats ¹. Most of the threats were issued through social media. On October 22 alone, around 50 flights, including 13 each from IndiGo and Air India, received bomb threat
