The Karnataka police are seeking access to Apple servers to investigate explicit videos allegedly involving JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna. This step is part of a broader investigation into a major scandal involving thousands of explicit videos and photos allegedly linked to Prajwal, who fled to Germany amidst the controversy. The police have issued a global lookout notice for him and are also probing allegations of sexual harassment against Prajwal and his father, HD Revanna, based on complaints from their domestic helpโ
Civil rights groups have called for the protection of the survivors and urged the Karnataka Womenโs Commission to intervene to prevent the further circulation of these videos and to take legal action against those distributing them. The case has significant political implications, with allegations of misuse for political gain by various partiesโ
Generally, Apple stores all information including texts, voice recordings, photos and videos on iCloud. Since Prajwal Revanna had claimed that his phone was lost (primary device), direct access to iCloud is the only way for SIT to prove that it was shot from the JD(S) MP’s phone.
If Apple grants access to their servers to the SIT, this could help expedite their investigation process. The only strong piece of evidence the SIT has is the statements of one of the victims who was allegedly sexually abused by Prajwal Revanna

Prajwal Revanna had left the country in April for Germany as the sex tapes case came to light. Several lookout notices were issued against him at all immigration points around the world. He landed in Bengaluru early on Friday and was arrested by the SIT before being taken to the CID office for interrogation.
